Magan Stevens
“Sometimes I feel like I was born a hundred years too late.I can’t explain it.I just feel it and that is what you see in my work.I think that the most important thing an artist can be is honest, and I’m honest. This is what I like.”
Magan Stevens was born in suburban Pennsylvania where she often accompanied her parents on weekend trips antiquing. This early appreciation for worn, older goods infused with character provided her with the foundation for her unique approach to fine glass art.The artist’s incorporation of paint with glass allows her to breathe new life into old objects that had been tossed away.Musing over discarded objects, she paints what she collects and what she likes: an old stone quarry, aged oil cans or an old red pick up truck.
Unlike traditional painting, Stevens ‘reverse-paints’ these antique images onto transparent flat glass that is then seamlessly melded onto the form allowing the glistening side to be revealed on the exterior and trapping the painting between the two layers of glass. The final touches for completion include found pieces of leather or scraps of metal.

Stevens' innovative works have enjoyed numerous acclamations, including scholarships from the Corning Museum of Glass and the Pilchuk Glass School. She has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States.Stevens has taught as a visiting artist in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania and recently co-founded RKS studios which produces elegant glass vessels in a variety of designs.
